Science combines with Design and Technology to give family fun
The Great Egg Race 2008

The Great Egg Race has now become an annual event at the school. It started in 2007 with the official opening of the new Science and Design and Technology buildings

The challenge set in this year's Great Egg Race certainly got people, young and old, thinking and talking. The challenge was to design and make a machine that would launch an egg (fresh, not hard-boiled) over a 5m 'chasm' to land unbroken on the opposite side.

There were 14 egg launchers entered and each was scrutineered and then judged on their design and engineering.
The real fun began as each egg launcher was given three attempts to complete the challenge. The atmosphere was one of excitement and trepidation as spectators considered their chances of being splattered with broken egg. The judges sat bravely in the firing line to give each launch a score.
The highest score was given to 'Maximus maddus maddiatus mentalisimus moppatronic egg mobilizer' crewed by the Davies family, which scored 86 out of a possible 90 points.
'Chicken Chucker' came a close second with 84 points. In third place was 'Flippin Egg' with 79 points.

Watch this space for next year's challenge.
