Science

Science is a subject relevant to almost every aspect of our lives. It stimulates curiosity, interest and enjoyment in the world around us - and in ourselves!

Pupils at The Downs are encouraged to learn through practical experience and problem solving. Science is taught as a general subject initially and splits into the three  disciplines of Biology, Chemistry and Physics in the summer term of Year 6.

Trips to Senior Schools and Festivals

The subject is made as accessible as possible and taking part in senior school science challenges and attending the Cheltenham Science Festival each year all help to make the subject come alive.

National Science Week

Each year, in March, we celebrate National Science Week with a variety of Science activities. These creep into other subjects in the curriculum, assemblies, breaktimes and even into lunch. Year 8 particularly enjoy sharing their enthusiasm with the youngest pupils in the school.

Science Challange Winners

National Science Week sees the culmination of the 'Science Challenge' where pupils in Years 3 - 8 have been working on an investigation of their own and get the chance to present their findings to be judged.
