The Downs School, Colwall and Malvern College Prep School
have merged to create a wonderful state of the art prep school to serve Malvern College.
The Downs, Malvern College Preparatory School opened on 8th September 2008 as the result of a carefully planned merger between two well respected educational establishments. The new school is an independent day and boarding school for boys and girls aged from 2½ to 13 years. Situated in extensive grounds in the beautiful Malvern Hills, The Downs, Malvern College Prep values its surroundings along with traditions from both schools, but has also take the opportunity to move with the times, striving to exceed the confines of the national curriculum in academic, as well as cultural, sporting and social accomplishments.
The close association with Malvern College will provide continuous education from 3-18 years for those that want it as well as access to the College Theatre and 25m Indoor Swimming Pool.
Alastair Ramsay, Headmaster of the new school.
"I believe that this has been a wonderful opportunity to create a strong, vibrant co-educational prep school. Both schools had close ties which had been established over many years. The family approach that we both adopted to pastoral care, nurturing and building the self confidence of children in a family environment, coupled with high academic, sporting, artistic and musical results support this aim. Both MCP and The Downs were schools that enjoyed great success and I am confident that the new school will set the highest standards in preparatory education."
Lord MacLaurin, Chairman of Malvern College Council,
Echoed Mr Ramsay's enthusiasm and stated that "Malvern College has long enjoyed an enviable reputation. We are sure that many pupils will continue to come on to the College from the new prep school, and we are all excited about the possibilities which the future holds."
Adrian Silcock,The Chairman of Governors of The Downs
Mr Silcock chairs the combined Board, and he stated: "In many ways these were two very similar schools, geographically close and with a shared set of values. It is a true combining of equals and excellence. We believe that we will be much stronger together than apart. We are very excited about what the future holds and the quality of the education that we can now offer.’"
