Drama Workshops

Romeo and Julliet for Year 7

Having braved the snow and ice on his journey, Mr Simon Scutt (former MCP member of staff) arrived from his home in France to provide drama workshops for the senior pupils in the school. For Year 7, who have studied 'Romeo and Juliet'  this term, the drama activities focused on the theme of love, conflict and Shakespearian insults! The pupils had already learned several speeches from the play in  preparation for the workshop, including the Prologue, and this was put to good use in the variety of activities they experienced.

With feeling!

Twelfth Night for Year 8

This workshop featured a gowned Malvolio!

Year 8 had prepared for the event by learning certain lines and speeches which also included insults directed at the character of Malvolio! Again the theme of love was a focus of the activities, this being the theme of this year's Common Entrance literature study. Year 8 will be seeing a production of 'Twelfth Night' at Malvern Theatres next term and will have developed an enhanced understanding of the play as a result of the workshop.
All the pupils said how much they enjoyed the drama activities and we are extremely grateful to Mr Scutt, whom many already knew from his days as Head of English and Drama at Malvern College Prep, for providing such a relevant and exciting experience. We hope to see him again in the near future.

Drama

It has been said that "There is no greater team game than putting on  a school production".

The Dracula Spectacula Show

Our pupils have just enjoyed performing this year’s musical comedy production ‘The Dracula Spectacula Show’ at the Rogers Theatre, Malvern College. Originally written in the 1970s by John Gardiner and Andrew Parr, this latest version of the horror spoof show has been brought up to date by teachers and musicians Wendy and Nick Blunn.

The show includes a cast of seventy-five children as well as a live band featuring a mixture of professional musicians who play shoulder to shoulder alongside Year 8 music scholars.

Set in modern times, the story centres on a school trip to Transylvania where an unwelcome Count Dracula appears at the hotel, creating havoc and mayhem along the way.

Needless to say, the goodies win and the hero gets the girl. Or does he?

Staff, parents and pupils of both the Prep School and Malvern College have all demonstrated the benefits of working together as a magnificent team.

Speech and Drama

We now offer individual and group speech and drama lessons as an extra leading towards public LAMDA examinations.

Dance

We have an excellent dance and drama studio, and visiting dance teachers provide lessons in ballet and modern dance, and also choreograph our productions.

As well as performing, there are roles for lighting and sound technicians, musicians, costume makers, front of house staff and make-up artists, all of which brings the school community of pupils, staff and parents together for the final production.

Productions for the academic year 2008/2009:

The Early Years' Nativity Play

Early Years children delighted audiences with their improvised dramatisation of the Christmas Story. The performances were followed by coffee and mince pies for all proud parents.

Pre Prep production:
'The Grumpy Sheep'

The Grumpy Sheep sings!

A musical navity with choirs of angels, sheep and inn keepers was beautifully performed in the Malvern College Chapel at the end of the Christmas term. The narrators, shepherds, wise men, camels and a very Grumpy Sheep, sang and danced their hearts out resulting in a humerous and lively performance enjoyed by all.

Angelic boys and girls!

Prep School production:
'Dracular Spectacular'

Tuesday 24th, Wednesday 25th and Thursday 26th March 2009
