Charity at the Downs
Charity activities for this year:
Pink Day for Breast Cancer Research
This is a very important charity for a few of our children who have very brave mums. On Monday 1st October we held a 'Dare to wear Pink Day’ when everyone who donated £1 wore pink instead of school uniform. We had pink cakes, jams and other produce for sale which helped to raise £510.40

We wore pink and ate pink rice!
Brockwood Nursery and Kindergarten Toddle Waddle
All parents, grandparents and friends were invited to join this sponsored walk in aid of the Meningitis Trust. Our toddlers raised over £200.
Harvest Gifts
To celebrate this years harvest we provided the residents of Himbledon House with their annual harvest gift boxes. It isn’t until we receive the lovely letters of thanks that we appreciate how much these decorated boxes of goodies mean to our friends in this residential home based on the outskirts of Worcester.
JET – Joint Educational Trust
JET is the Independent Schools’ charity for troubled children and Mr Ramsay is very keen that we should adopt this as our charity for the year. This means that donations collected from events such as the Junior School play or the carol service should be pooled together so that a significant donation can be made at the end of the summer term. We shall be displaying information about this charity in the Boys’ Hall for everyone to see. I am sure that when you see the problems that some children have to face and the stability that an independent boarding environment can give them, you will agree that this is a worthwhile cause.
BBC Children in Need
We held a spontaneous collection after our 'Pop and Choral Day for visiting primary school children and managed to collect £156.77 for Children in Need.
Last year's Red Nose Day

Fun with Red Noses
Blue Peter's Shoebiz Appeal

Jacob Smith led our shoe collection and 'Wear your Wellies Day' to support the Blue Peter Appeal.
Community
Community Choir
Each Thursday evening at 8pm, the Colwall Community Choir meets in the Memorial Hall for an evening of song and laughter, organised by The Downs own Director of Music, Wendy Blunn, and her husband Nick. Once a term there is a concert for the public, with the choir performing a wide range of songs from jazz to classic to choral. It's informal and a lot of fun - and new members are always made very welcome. Do join us!

... a few of us singing in Belgium!
Petanque
A small group of local residents meet up regularly to play this gentle french game on our hockey pitch.
Concerts and Recitals.
Our Memorial Hall is available for groups to use. Please contact the school for details.
