The Inspectors, who were in school for two days, reported that “the boarding staff promote an atmosphere of one large extended family which is intimate, welcoming and creates an enriching boarding experience. A holistic and child centred approach is used effectively to meet the needs of individual children”.
The management team and systems in place for monitoring child welfare and the development of the boarding provision were praised as outstanding.
Headmaster Alastair Ramsay stated that he was “delighted with the report and the fact that there were absolutely no recommendations for improvement is a magnificent tribute to the hard work of the whole boarding team.
This is a further acknowledgement of the excellence developing at the school and to which all aspire”.
The Best Boarding Provision in the Country
It has recently been revealed that the boarding provision at The Downs School which was inspected by the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) under the government guidelines ‘every child matters’ has the highest score in the country. 52 standards were examined and graded 1-4.
The school was found to have met all 52 standards in full and exceeded the required criteria in twenty areas. Most unusually there were no recommendations made for improvement.
